As everyone is aware I have been consistent in my advocacy for moving as much power transmission equipment offshore as possible and taking the power direct to where it is need via subsea cables.
Regrettably the UK government have thusfar refused to heed calls to fundamentally revise their strategy. Until we have a government that listens, we need to focus on, we must focus our challenge on SSEN’s plans.
I have engaged intensively with SSEN on residents’ behalf. I have specifically advocated the Fetteresso location as the “least worst” option for residents. The changed substation route averts the devastation of a family farm, two houses and the Grassic Gibbon cultural legacy. It also pulls the 50-70m high pylon routes up and away from large numbers of residents across the Mearns.
Nonetheless the triumphal headlines and radio soundbites from our MP (who is personally responsible for power networks) ring hollow, while we still have a deeply flawed pylon route that is unnecessarily affecting far too many homes and families especially in Auchenblae, Drumoak and Durris.
As you would expect, I was in immediate contact with SSEN to further challenge these aspects and have arranged further more detailed meetings in the coming weeks.
The campaign continues…
